How
To Avoid Common List Building Mistakes
Having a list of
subscribers is an important aspect to becoming successful online. There are
many ways to generate traffic to a website, but in time most of them will
become obsolete, that's why a having your own list is essential for long-term
success. The key to building a successful subscriber base is to make certain
you’re developing a list of those who will be responsive to the products and
services you’re offering. In this article, I’m going to talk about some list
building mistakes you need to avoid.
First and foremost, you
must know who your audience is. Many internet marketers try to build the
largest list possible, by getting anyone and everyone to sign on to it. You
need to understand why people subscribe to your list in the first place. Once
you know this, you’re far more likely to deliver the correct information they
want. Every once in a while, send everyone on your list a survey asking them
what they like. This is a really effective strategy and yet, many marketers don’t
take advantage of it.
Another big mistake
many marketers make, is that they forget that the person they’re e-mailing to,
may have subscribed to several other lists as well. If you don't stand out and
make a concerted effort at being original, your e-mails will never get opened
and will be deleted.
Offer your subscribers
valuable content they can use immediately, each and every time they open one of
your messages. This will ensure that they’ll not only open all your emails, but
that they’ll be anxiously waiting for your subsequent e-mails as well. If a
product is being launched that you’d like to promote, don't send the same
emails as everyone else that’s often supplied by the product owner. Write the
message yourself to ensure that it’s unique to your particular list.
Another major mistake that’s
commonly made by many internet marketers, is dispatching e-mails that are nothing
more than a glorified sales pitch to get someone to buy something. While it’s
important to get those on your list to purchase products, there’s a right and a
wrong way to do this.
You must first build trust
with your list, and this can be accomplished by offering them useful and
practical information that they’ll need on a regular basis. When you build
trust with your list of subscribers, you'll end up producing far more sales if
and when you recommend something. While you’re sending out e-mails giving great
content, these e-mails will eventually lead someone to your website where that
person may purchase a product or service you recommend, in large part because
of the quality information you’ve provided.
Unfortunately, too many
marketers focus upon just getting people onto their lists without giving any
thought as to what they’ll provide for them. So if you’re looking to build a
profitable e-mail list, you’ll need to stay away from the mistakes that most internet
marketers are making.
