Avoid These Common Mistakes When Building Your List

One area that the majority of internet marketers agree on, is that it’s essential to build a list of subscribers to be successful online. A primary reason for having a list, is that you’ll always be able to market to it, when other forms of traffic generation dry up.

The key to building a successful subscriber list, is to build a list of individuals that’ll be responsive to the products and services you promote to them. There are a number of mistakes that are connected with developing your subscriber list, and I’m going to discuss them in the following paragraphs.
It’s important for you to know why they’ve signed on to your list in the first place. A common mistake is to think that all you need to do is create a list of subscribers. Bear in mind that you’re dealing with people that joined your list for a reason.

Every person who signed on to your list, did so because they’re trying to solve a specific problem they have. This should give you a much better idea on what to promote to them. When in doubt, it’s always better to ask. So you might want to send out a mass survey to everyone on your list, and ask them to fill it out so you can find out what they want. This is very effective, and yet many marketers neglect it.

Many people don’t give much thought to the idea, that those who sign on to one list, may have signed on to other lists as well. This is something you'll need to keep in mind when sending out your surveys. To increase the possibility of your  e-mails getting opened, make certain that your subject line grabs their attention.

The aim should be required reading for your subscribers, and you’re able to only do this if you add value, and show you’re both trustworthy and have a message that's your own. Never use the e-mails provided by product owners, because everyone that's advertising that particular product, will probably be using the same e-mails as you. If possible, put your own spin on it and offer a bonus to complement whatever is being sold.

There’s another major mistake which is commonly made by many e-mail marketers, and that’s the e-mail they send, is nothing more than a glorified sales pitch to sell something. The main reason you’ve built your list, is to make money. But you must do this in the proper fashion. One of the best ways to make sure people purchase the products and services you recommend, is by consistently providing them with valuable information.

When you build trust with your list of subscribers, you’ll find you’re creating considerably more sales when you recommend a product. When you send an email containing value-laden content, that leads someone to your site, that person may purchase your product or service as a result of the quality information you provided.

In the end, many internet marketers focus on just getting people onto their lists, without giving much thought as to what they're going to provide for their subscribers. By avoiding the mistakes I’ve mentioned, you’ll discover that your list building efforts will become much more profitable.
